American, (1859–1938)
Elizabeth Nourse graduated from the McMicken School of Design (now the Art Academy of Cincinnati) 1880 and traveled to Paris 1887 where she became friends with fellow American artist Mary Cassatt. She was the second American woman elected as a member of the Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts. In 1983 she was the subject of a retrospective exhibition organized by the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Cincinatti Art Museum.
