"Artist, professor, scholar, and curator Michael D. Harris was from Cleveland, OH. He earned a BFA and MFA from Howard University, Washington, DC, and a PhD in art history from Yale University, New Haven, CT. Harris published and co-authored a number of publications including Colored Pictures: Race and Visual Representation in 2003. He is a member of the artist collective AfriCOBRA (African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists). Harris exhibited across the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean and his work is represented in many public and private collections. He served on the National Board of the National Conference of Artists and on the Editorial Board of the International Review of African American Art based in Hampton University, VA.
