Byron Browne was a Modernist painter and one of the founders of American Abstract Artists, a New York City organization devoted to exhibiting abstract art. Browne specialized in still life in the style of Synthetic Cubism, influenced by his friends John Graham, Arshile Gorky, and Willem de Kooning.
His works are included in major museum collections including those of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, LACCMA, the MFA Boston, The MFA Houston, MOMA, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and numerous others.
