These colorful wall paintings decorate a Byzantine church in Turkey’s Cappadocia region. Above the central cupola bears an image of Christ Pantokrator (“all-sovereign” or “ruler of all”) , while the smaller domes to the left and right are decorated with images of archangels. In the curve of the apse is a Deësis scene, in which a seated Christ appears flanked by the Virgin and John the Baptist, both in postures of supplication. Surrounding these scenes are depictions of saints and decorative vegetal motifs.
